Prince Harry and Meghan Markle haven’t fared well in the limelight since their split with the royal family.

Over time, several reports have emerged that are decidedly unfavorable for the couple. It was previously reported that several staff members at their household walked out. Moreover, it has recently come to light that the couple is struggling with their new luxury startup, American Riviera Orchard, and is having difficulty retaining employees.

Amid the celebrations for Harry’s 40th birthday, reports have surfaced that the Duchess of Sussex is a dictator capable of intimidating grown men. A source close to the couple told Hollywood Reporter that the ‘Suits’ actress belittles the staff and “marches around barking orders.”

The source told the publication, “Everyone’s terrified of Meghan… She belittles people and doesn’t take advice.” The source also stated that Harry and Meghan are poor decision-makers and fickle-minded.

“Harry is a very, very charming person—no airs at all—but he’s very much an enabler. And she’s just terrible.” Another source added, “She’s absolutely relentless… She marches around like a dictator in high heels, fuming and barking orders. I’ve watched her reduce grown men to tears.”

This isn’t the first time Meghan Markle is facing the accusation of mistreating her staff. In 2018, Buckingham Palace investigated Meghan for her treatment of two royal aides, labeling it as “bullying behavior.”

While the findings of the investigation were not made public, Meghan described the claims as a “calculated smear campaign.”

Additionally, reports have frequently surfaced about the couple’s staff leaving just months after starting their positions. In 2021, Markle’s top aide and private secretary departed, and last month, the couple’s chief of staff left the job after just three months.

In August, Josh Kettler, a Santa Barbara-based consultant, resigned after only three months on the job. Before Kettler, Toya Holness served as Harry and Meghan’s global press secretary until 2022.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, along with their five-year-old son, Prince Archie, and three-year-old daughter, Princess Lilibet, reside in the celebrity enclave of Montecito, near Santa Barbara on the US West Coast.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry expressed his enthusiasm for turning 40 as he celebrated his milestone birthday last weekend.

Royal family wishes Prince Harry a happy birthday

Prince Harry celebrated a milestone birthday on Sept. 15, one he said he was “excited” to celebrate. Harry, the youngest child of King Charles III and the late Princess Diana, is now 40.

“I was anxious about 30, I’m excited about 40,” Harry, the Duke of Sussex, said in a statement to the BBC, ahead of his birthday. “Whatever the age, my mission is to continue showing up and doing good in the world.”

On his birthday, Harry received well wishes on social media from his family, even as he continues to have a distant relationship with his father and his brother, Prince William.

The official Instagram account of Britain’s royal family shared a photo of Harry on Sunday along with the caption, “Wishing The Duke of Sussex a very happy 40th birthday today!”

William and his wife Kate, the Princess of Wales, re-shared the royal family’s message on Instagram and X, writing alongside it, “Wishing a Happy 40th Birthday to The Duke of Sussex!”

The birthday wishes marked a first in three years.

“This is significant. It’s the first time that the royal family has acknowledged Harry’s birthday on social media in three years,” Murphy said. “This is a milestone birthday, but it’s still being looked at as a sign that relations are improving.”

Harry’s last known in-person visit with Charles was in February, when Harry traveled to the U.K. to see his dad after learning of his cancer diagnosis.

Harry also returned to the U.K. in August to attend a memorial service for his maternal uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes, according to the BBC. William also attended the service, but the brothers reportedly did not interact.

In his comments to the BBC ahead of his birthday, Harry expressed contentment based on his home life with his wife Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, and their two children, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3.

“Becoming a father of two incredibly kind and funny kids has given me a fresh perspective on life, as well as sharpening my focus in all my work,” Harry told the BBC. “Being a dad is one of life’s greatest joys and has only made me more driven and more committed to making this world a better place.”

Harry spent his 40th birthday in Montecito, Calif., where he and Meghan moved their family after stepping down from their royal roles, celebrating with his family and friends. Prince Harry, Meghan Markle visit Nigeria, share mental health message with students

While visiting Nigeria in May, Meghan told students at a local school that Lili loves “singing and dancing” class because she loves to jump around, according to People.

Earlier this year, Harry said Will Reeve that both Lili and Archie are doing “great” and “growing up very, very fast.”

“They both have got an incredible sense of humor and make us laugh and keep us grounded every single day, like most kids do,” he said. “I’m just very grateful to be a dad.”
